The Inescapable Truth about Pet Love

(or Pet Loss)

Where there is love there is loss, and where there is loss there is grief!

Whether I am providing services to veterinarians or pet parents, this remains true:

anticipating pet loss and grief is unbearable.

That's why I am excited about my upcoming book

I Miss You Already: Preparing for the Unbearable Loss of Your Pet © (IMYA ©)

IMYA will teach you not only how to bear it, but how to prepare for it!

What Makes

IMYA© Unique?

Have you experienced the heart-wrenching process of watching your cherished pet enter the pre-boarding flight over to "Rainbow Bridge"? You cry out to cancel their flight.

You desperately try to stop them from boarding, but ultimately, you must face the harsh reality that you cannot control death.

This is known as Anticipatory Pet Loss Grief, a form of grief that begins before your pet is gone.

The book is a tender teaching memoir born from my own journey with the loss of my two service dogs, Toaster and Pink. Unlike other pet bereavement books, IMYA© shows readers how to grow through grief and rise to resilience when navigating anxiety, indecision, depression

“As an expert on pet loss grief, Nancy shares her own grief journey, from the first moments of anticipating the loss of her dogs through the final moments of letting them go, teaching us the tools, skills, and practices that heal your heart. Thankfully, we don’t have to live with unaddressed grief and trauma, and Nancy’s well-written book shows us how."

~Karen Shaw Becker, DVM Animal Wellness Expert and Veterinarian, NYT best-selling author

About Me

As a licensed clinical therapist, my heartbreaking personal journey through anticipatory pet loss and the grief that followed losing my two service dogs is no different than yours.

My heart broke in two.

To put it back together, my journey before, during and after this loss required my professional skills, which taught me how to bear the unbearable loss of my dogs.

My mission is to make a difference in how the world perceives, understands, experiences, and supports loss and grief, especially pet loss.

Who Will this Book Make a Difference to?

  • Those experiencing anticipatory grief as they witness the loss of a beloved pet.

  • Individuals who have already lost a pet and want to learn about healing from past loss.

  • Pet parents facing the decision to euthanize their pet, who can learn how to make that a healing experience.

  • Veterinarians, animal hospice workers, and staff at veterinary hospitals or other pet-related services, such as crematoriums and memorial product providers.

Together, we can make a difference in how the world understands and supports healing pet loss and grief.
